Committee for the Background of
Zhang Hongbao’s Serial Cases has Announced Its Establishment
The Investigation Committee for the Background of
Zhang Hongbao Serial Lawsuits held a news conference in the Westin Pasadena
Hotel which is located in the east of Pasadena Superior Court on April 21, 2004,
to announced its establishment officially.
The speaker of the Committee Ms. Betty said: There has been a mighty uproar
among overseas Chinese after hearing that the Chinese Communist Party has been
gathering false evidence against Zhang Hongbao, head of the Zhong Gong qi gong
movement, in order to extradite him. Thus Mr Zhang, who had been the protagonist
in “the biggest political case in the U. S. in 2001”, again became the focus of
attention. Earlier last May almost all of the Chinese media ran reports on Zhang
Hongbao’s so-called “Kidnapping” case. Soon people found that it was just the
beginning of several serial cases.
In one year Mr. Zhang was astonished to find that the lawsuits he had to face
reached a growing total of twenty. Outsiders might be curious, then amazed and
finally incredulous over the number of cases suddenly mounted, because of the
level of “overkill” which it ultimately represents. He has not been in the
United States even a full three years and already he has been targeted for
twenty lawsuits. In comparison, most people live in the U. S. for dozens of
years without ever encountering so many cases in so short a time span. So what’s
going on?
A major opponent in Mr. Zhang’s alleged “Kidnapping” case is also significantly
involved in other very serious cases involving notable dissident Chinese. This
is not a coincidence. There is strong reason to believe that the same woman is
also the major suspect in the case of luring and arresting Wang Bingzhang. She
was seriously involved in the overthrow of one so-called Interim Government. And
now she has cut into the so-called “Kidnapping” charges brought against Zhang
Hongbao. Under those circumstances, people cannot help but feel that there is
some unusual background going on in these serial cases. That means that it is no
longer a simple matter of legal issues or charges any more. American laws and
the court system are being used to wear out Zhang Hongbao and to dran the
resources of Zhong Gong. Recently the CCP has again been gathering yet more
false evidence to attempt to further damage Zhang’s cases, which has only made
the political background of his cases even more conspicuous.
Ms Betty introduced as follows: Zhang Hongbao is the founder of Zhong Gong, a
group which promotes spiritual well-being and health. Its forty million members
have been notably persecuted by the CCP. Jiang Zemin was very worried that this
spiritual group might turn into the biggest rival party. He was even more
worried that Zhang Hongbao, who is a charismatic leader who gathered millions of
people in a short time, might transform into a significant political leader. If
Zhang Hongbao can be extradited, however, and executed, then would Zong Gong
become a useless mass like loose sand, permitting the CCP’s headache to
disappear.
In November 2002, Zhang Hongbao set up his organization called the China Shadow
Government. This is breaking up the political landscape of the CCP’s
dictatorship, and has had a profound effect in promoting democracy in China.
Zhang’s document, “Eight Motions for Amending the Constitution,” caused even
greater panic in the CCP’s regime. Zhang Hongbao’s farsighted political vision
and his resources in people and in finance, plus his success in political
theories and leadership, have made him a heavy-weight political leader in
promoting Chinese democratic progress.
Jiang Zemin’s dictatorship sees these two points very clearly, and that is the
real reason why Zhang Hongbao has been suffering such political persecution over
the years. Since 1995, Zhang and his organization have been under all manner of
stringent political persecution by Jiang Zemin’s dictatorship. The forms of
attack have changed over time, from searches and arrests, to chasing with intent
to kill, and now, in the U. S., spreading rumors in an attempt to destroy his
reputation.
Zhang Hongbao was rescued from the original criminal case, which the CCP had
designed to frame him, in 2001. This happened through the intervention of
certain Congressmen with authentication from the Law Library of the Library of
Congress in Washington, with the help of civil organizations and overseas
Chinese democratic organizations. And as for the continued incidents which Zhang
has encountered since he was released from the Guam detention center, we
naturally care very much. Since we were not sure exactly what had happened, we
were confused and worried for him, yet we could only keep silent. Now that the
political background underlying the serial suits has become more and more openly
exposed, we can no longer remain as just onlookers to the continuing drama of
harassing Zhang Hongbao, who is an important future leader in the Chinese
democratic progress.
Ms Betty told everybody about the task of the Committee: We decided to set up
this Committee to Investigate the Background of Zhang Hongbao’s Serial Cases in
order to find out the truth behind their existence and proliferation. In accord
with American legal procedure, this Committee will function as a Friend of the
Court (amicus curiae), to assist the judge and jury by offering background on
Zhang’s multiple cases. We wish to offer Related evidence to the court, and
also, to the extent that it is appropriate, to supply background information to
the media concerning Zhang’s cases. We hope to reduce harm, stop persecution,
disclose plots, and protect the innocent. To do this supports the work of rescue
which goes on among American people, overseas Chinese democratic organizations,
and Chinese colony groups, while it also works to maintain the sense of justice
in America and the American reputation for fairness. We do not like seeing the
justice system in the U. S. abused by manipulation, especially when it is done
to assist a dictatorship.
The organizations and individuals that have joined this Committee are:
Anti-Political Persecution Alliance of China,
The Worldwide Chinese Federation,
The Chinese Labor Association,
Campaign for the Abolishment of the Laojiao Labor Camp System
The Pan-American Women’s Rights Protection Association,
The World Chinese Net, and various residents of Pasadena, California, where Mr.
Zhang resides.
All of the above mentioned organizations and individuals are either leaders, or
substantial organizations. The Anti-Political Persecution Alliance of China was
originally set up as the Global Alliance for Rescuing Zhang Hongbao, and it
includes membership drawn from almost all of the organizations of the overseas
Chinese democratic movement, including some well-established leaders. The
Worldwide Chinese Federation is made up of over 300 global Chinese
organizations. The Chinese Labor Association was the worker’s organization which
played an important role in the Tiananmen Square movement. The American Women’s
Human Rights Association was organized by U. S. citizens to protect human rights
of all people, but especially of women and children.
The Committee has received congratulatory cables from European Rescuing Zhang
Hongbao Alliance and the Zhang Hongbao Rescuing organization from Australia, and
the Committee has also received phone calls from the countries and areas from
Canada, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The International Zhong Gong
Headquarters, Inc. and the Zhong Gong members from main land China as well as
the China Shadow Government also made phone calls to express their gratitude and
support.
